Chance of Fate

                                                           A PORTRAIT OF GOD

This brief is an examination of our thinking and where our views and beliefs come from. We were asked to create designs, illustrations, photographs and even to advertise and promote our ideas based on our own heartfelt beliefs.

This is one of my favorite song by Joan Osborne. When I heard this song for the first time.
It made me think of what if Gods prescence is in all those vulnerable people or he could be one
of them sent to test us.

We are all an Image of God and God is in one of us regardless our individual beliefs.
I believe that's God is the good part in all of us. The spiritual force called faith.

I was born in Colombia where 90% of the population, myself included, were raised as Roman Catholics.  I attended Roman Catholic Schools and our culture and traditions have deep Catholic roots which date back to our colonial occupation by the Spaniards in the early 16th Century.

Christianity was however largely forced upon our indigenous population who possesed their own polythestic totemistic religions at the time.  The people were civilised and lived together in large organised societies but had far inferior weapons compared to their European invaders who helped themselves to all the gold that they could find.

If you look at the history of any human civilization around the world during the Paleolithic era you will see that many of the first tribal ceremonies involved the grouping of people to gather food and to hunt.  As their societies evolved more spiritual behaviour began such as burial and rituals.

Societies and religions have developed over time and while they may have different names and concepts they all have much in common including the human belief that we were essentially created by a higher power.

(JR Photographer, 28 Feb 2007)

This video trailer is a photography project by JR Photography.  The one aspect that called my attention was that all religions interviewed agree that we have been created in the image of God.  So perhaps we are not that different after all.

NOTE: This project is still under constrution

                                                ABOUT MY PROJECT DESIGN

                                                                      Fig. Idea No1

Idea No1 Is about building a telescopic box with 4 windows.  There will be a door at the front which gives the viewer a step by step tour of the evolution of religion.

a).  Paleolithic Cave Paintings

It started with a cave painting from the Paleolithic timewhich depicts the sacrificing of animals.  This dates back to between 15000 BC and 9000 BC.

b).  Image of Praying Hands
A sign of organised religion or creation of different religions.

c).  Politician doing his Campaign.
Showing that politics and religion can be used to manipulate minds.

d).  Mirror
The final window is a mirror where the viewer is forced to look at themselves with religion in mind.  Do you question your religious beliefs of follow with a blind faith.

Note: This project is still under construction

                                                                   Fig. Idea No2

Idea No 2 I have decided to take the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus to represents my religion, Christianity.  The mirror instead of Jesus’s face is a representation of faith as a spiritual force in which every one of us in society should live a life of mutual respect and good will.

By looking in the mirror the viewer will perhaps question the good (and bad) that they do in the world.

Which version would Jesus have known?

You shall have no other gods but me.
IIYou shall have no other gods but me.You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain. You shall not make unto you any graven images.
IIIYou shall not take the name of the Lord your G-d in vain.Remember to keep holy the Lord's Day.You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
IV

VHonor your mother and father. You shall not kill.Honor your mother and father.
VIYou shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not murder.
VIIYou shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not commit adultery.
VIIIYou shall not steal.  You shall not bear false witness. You shall not steal.
IXYou shall not bear false witness. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. You shall not bear false witness.
XYou shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods. You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

The Catholic Ten Commandments are a summary of "the conditions of a life freed from the slavery of sin" (Catechism, 2057).

They must be understood in relation to the "law of love": Love of God and love of neighbor summarize all of Catholic morality. The law of love is also the first principle & source of the moral law. It contains "all the law and the prophets" (Mt 22:40).

The importance of Language in Colombia

Colombia is a country where people hardly speak another language other than Spanish however, there is a desire for youth between 12 and 25 yers old to go to places like E.U. or Europe and be able to communicate in English lenguage.

Colombians are very proud  of the Nation and their Culture.  According to the Happy Planet index HPI created by New Economics Foundations NEF (2012) Colombia is on the 3rd In addition 8 of the other top ten countries were based in Latino America.

Nowdays it is important for people between  the ages of 20 and late 40 years old to speak in English.
  • To understand new concepts of global business.
  • To get new jobs.
  • To work for a good Companies.
  • Desire of going places and be able to communicate.
  • To emigrate.

Personal Computer usage in Colombia

  • In 2008 the Colombian Ministry of Communications found that there were over 5 million Personal computers in Colombia. That equates to 11.25 per 100 peolpe.
  • As a result of urban growth and prosperity in combination with the rising use of social networking we can assume that this figures has doubled and redoubled during the past 4 years and is continuing to grow.
  • Internet cafes are very popular and very affordable in Colombia, particulary in the cities.  Young people in particular use them for their homework or to communiate with friends and family.

Linking our TV show to social media is not only an option  but is vital in this day and age.
Colombia has over 17.5million Facebook users. (courtesy of social Bakers 2012)

Related Ideas

  • Linked this TV program with some established companies and their products, with the interest of raising profit, popularityand be on topof the charts.
  • Commercial Sponsorship:  Advertising will help fund the production costs of the program but will not dominate proceedings.
  • We will aim to work with sponsors who have the same interests in mind rather than mainstream advertisers.
  • Advertisers will be welcomed on our TV slot and on our Website.
  • We will also get people to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Google plus etc. and cross promote our TV program and Website platforms.

Conclusion

There appears to be a target audience and a desire to learn amongst the Latino American Community.  They are willing to work and travel in English Speaking countries.  They are increasingly using internet and smartphone based media in their everyday lives.  When the project is up and running they will have access to these resources.
Work can begin on the program with immediate effect.  Some episodes can be created for YouTube and a pilot episode can be created for the TV slot.   The popularity of the show can be measured in YouTube hits and projected TV audience figures.  These figures will give an initial indication on the feasibility of expanding the project and to what scale and scope

                                            logo Design

Fig.3  Logo for the Show Program

The concept behind the logo is threefold.  The first is that it resembles a pair of headphones that a viewer can use to watch the show.  The arch of the headphones bears the name of the show (Hello Colombia).  I used a font called Mistral as it has a handwriting look to it that suits my design.  The second is that it is broadcast around the world.  Finally the colours represent the flag of Colombia with the colours yellow, red and blue.
